If you are concerned about being able to pay your bill, please stop by or call your Patient Account Representative.  This person will help you by discussing the different options you have regarding your bill payment, including financial assistance for qualified individuals. If you submitted insurance information at the time of your admission, Memorial Hospital will bill your insurance company. You will be notified should there be any responsibility amount on your claim. We will request your assistance if your insurance provider does not respond to our claim in a timely manner.

Patient Account Representatives are available to assist you with any questions or concerns regarding insurance payments or financial arrangements at the numbers shown above.

If you are having a hard time understanding your medical bills, Memorial Hospital can help.  Memorial Hospital will help you sort through the paperwork of most health insurance forms, hospital bills, Medicare claims and supplemental insurance forms.  Your medical bills do not have to be from Memorial Hospital for us to help.  This service is free and available if you need it.  For more information or to schedule an appointment, call your Patient Account Representative.

You will receive separate and independent bills from providers not employed by Memorial Hospital, who respond or participate in your care when you are a patient at Memorial Hospital.

Depending on services used, you may receive a bill from your attending physician, a consulting physician, radiologist or pathologists.

Questions about your bills from these providers should be directed to the office of the provider.

Q: With which managed care plans does Memorial Hospital participate?
 A: We participate in most managed care programs.  If in doubt about your company’s participation, call your Patient Account Representative.
Q: How is my bill handled if I don’t have insurance?
A:  Payment is due within 30 days of services. If unable to pay your bill in full you may contact your Patient Account Representative. We have payment quidelines based upon the total amount owed, and are outlined in our Billing and Collection Pamphlet.   Completion of a financial evaluation form will allow us to develop a lower monthly payment plan or a financial grant for qualified individuals.
Q: What happens if my bill is overpaid?
    A: A refund is given to the appropriate party (your insurance company, you, or both).
Q: Who is responsible for my bill?
A: You are responsible for it.  Your insurance company will provide you with an explanation of benefits and let you know what has been paid and what has not been paid.  If they decline to pay part of your care, they will explain why.  If you have questions about what payments your insurance company has made, please contact them.
Q: What happens if I don’t pay my bill on time?
A: Your bill needs to be paid within a set time frame or arrangements need to be made for payment with your Patient Account Representative.  If not, as a last result, your account will be turned over to a third party agent.

Memorial Hospital serves as a custodian for patient medical records.  Any person has the right to request a copy of the records that are used by healthcare professionals to make decisions regarding their care.  To inspect or obtain a patient record, complete and sign an Authorization for Release of Health Information form.  The form, which is required by law, must be submitted to the Health Information Management department. Memorial Hospital has the right to charge the person requesting records a fee to cover the cost associated with copying, such as labor and supplies.  Contact the Health Information Management department at 785-263-2100 for more details.
