Respiratory Care
Respiratory Care works very closely with patients’ physicians to help understand each person’s cardio-respiratory needs and to help determine the best treatment. This department works with people of all ages, from infants to the elderly. Computerized equipment may be used as a diagnostic tool in understanding the breathing dynamics. Respiratory Care can evaluate lung volumes, help treat lung deficiencies, and provide therapeutic procedures. They focus on assessing, treating, managing, educating, and preventing.

Phase
2 is an 18-session outpatient program. Patients are referred to the program by their physicians and appointments can be made by calling 785-263-2100 ext.6174. These sessions involve exercising in the rehabilitation department with cardiac monitoring, nutritional counseling, along with educational information that a patient might need.
Each program is tailored to the individual needs of the patient. Phase 3 is a 15-session outpatient program where patients are self-directed and receive minimal supervision. It also takes place in the rehabilitation department.

Cardiac stress testing is an analysis that evaluates the heart and vascular system during exercise. This test can help detect underlying heart disease, which is only apparent when the heart is stressed by exercise. It can also help answer if a person has heart disease and how severe it is. Pulmonary Function Testing - Back to top
This test evaluates the lungs’ functions such as the volume of air that moves in and out of the lungs, and how rapidly the air moves in and out of the lungs. This test generally detects obstructive and restrictive breathing abnormalities. It can be performed with or without bronchial dilation. Homecare allows oxygen, respiratory, and ventilation therapies to be performed in the patient’s home. The Respiratory Care department helps patients obtain equipment, teaches them how the treatment should be performed, and shows them how to take care of the machines.
